A continuing education unit is one contact hour of a learning experience (1 CEU = 1 hour). The topic of the education must be related to the scope of practice of electrolysis or laser light-based hair reduction.

Yes, CEUs must be approved by the board at least 60 days before the event. A list of approved CEUs is available on this page. The board cannot credit CEUs that have not been approved in advance.

Each license year, electrologists must complete 10 CEUs. However, if an electrologist has at least 30 years of uninterrupted, licensed practice, they only need 10 CEUs every five years.

Each license year, laser hair pracitioners must complete 10 CEUs. These CEUs must be in addition to the CEUs for the electrology license.

- Licensees can't receive more than 10 CEUs for home study each license year. ("Home study" means CEUS that are completed online or by correspondence, rather than in an in-person classroom setting.)
- Licensees can't earn more than five CEUs in business management over two sequential license periods.

Yes, with some limitations. You can carry forward up to 10 CEUs to the next license year. However, if the CEUs were earned through home study, you can only carry them forward if all the following apply. ("Home study" means CEUs that are completed online or by correspondence, rather than in an in-person classroom setting.)
- The continuing education provider records the full name and license number of the attendee.
- There is both a host and a monitor administering the CEUs. The monitor verifies that attendees are present during the CEUs.
- The attendee always has a camera on so the monitor can verify participation.
- The continuing education provider records the time the attendee was present.
- The continuing education provider submits verification of attendance within 30 days of the event to the board. The provider will submit this verification to the address at the top of this document.

Yes. Electrologists or laser hair practitioners who want to renew licenses that have been expired between 90 days and five years must meet the following requirements:
- Complete 10 CEUs for each elapsed license period since the license expired, including partial license periods.
- At least 10 CEUs must have been completed within the past year.

Yes. Electrologists or laser hair practitioners who have been on the inactive list for fewer than five years must present evidence that they completed 10 CEUs within the past year. (They'll also need to submit an application to reactivate the license.)
